About Dave

Dave Somers is a fisheries biologist, research scientist, community leader, and Snohomish County Executive.

After graduating from the University of Washington, Dave worked for the Tulalip Tribes for nearly two decades. As a habitat protection biologist, Dave ensured salmon had a place in the Puget Sound where they could live and thrive. He later ran for Snohomish County Council, representing District 5.

Dave served on the Snohomish County Council for 14 years before being elected Snohomish County Executive in 2015.

As County Executive, Dave has excelled at turning what was a poorly run and ineffective organization into a streamlined customer service driven local government.

Dave brings his experience as a fisheries scientist to work daily. He’s a champion of conservation and sustainability, leading successful environmental restoration efforts across Snohomish County. He also brings a much-needed evidenced-backed approach to local government, where data and real feedback inform the direction of county services and programs.

Dave is the President of the Puget Sound Regional Council where he works with other local governments to develop a long-term vision and a well developed plan for our region’s future. A member of the Sound Transit Board, Dave is a leader in developing an efficient and accountable regional transit system for the entire Puget Sound.

Dave lives in Monroe with his wife Elaine and their dogs and horses.
